The Apex Review: Norris Dominates as McLaren Secures Constructors’ Title at Abu Dhabi GP; Hamilton Bids Farewell to Mercedes

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 brought the Formula 1 season to a dramatic close under the lights at Yas Marina Circuit. Lando Norris dominated from start to finish, securing a commanding victory that crowned McLaren as Constructors’ Champions for the first time since 1998. He was followed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in second and teammate Charles Leclerc in third, after Leclerc produced one of the standout drives of the day .
Starting P6, Leclerc carved through the pack with exceptional overtakes, including a late-race battle with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who ultimately finished fourth. Leclerc’s fightback reflected Ferrari’s strong end to the season, challenging McLaren throughout .
Lewis Hamilton, in his final race for Mercedes, delivered a heroic performance from P18 on the grid. With precision and aggression, he climbed to fourth, holding off teammate George Russell, who finished fith. Hamilton’s overtakes, including a daring move on Fernando Alonso, highlighted his brilliance as he bid an emotional farewell to Mercedes after 12 record-breaking years .
Behind them, Alonso secured eighth for Aston Martin, while Alexander Albon (Williams) and Esteban Ocon (Alpine) completed the top ten with strong drives. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen, already crowned World Champion, struggled after receiving penalties, finishing in an uncharacteristic seventh place .
The race marked the end of an era for several drivers, particularly Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes, setting up exciting team shifts and rivalries for 2025. The season concluded with McLaren’s resurgence, Ferrari’s late charge, and a competitive grid that promises an exciting year ahead.
